Mining Manager
Introduction
The purpose of the Mine Manager role is to manage the day-to-day operations of the Mine in a safe and efficient manner to achieve the stabling production objectives within the approved budgets, company guidelines and legal requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
SHEQ
Ensure compliance with statutory / legislative and corporate requirements
Integrate SHE initiatives into departmental planning, decision making, systems and processes
Promote awareness and establish appropriate departmental targets to prevent harm
Ensure all hazards and sources of loss are identified, evaluated, and controlled in accordance with SHE Policies and the Safety Management Standards
Be accountable for safety, health and environment activities within the operation
Take all reasonable measures to ensure the health and safety of employees and proper discipline at the Mine
Take all reasonable measures to ensure that the provisions of the Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals Act and its Regulations (as may be amended from time to time) are implemented and adhered to at the Mine
Operations and Reliability
Manage the day-to-day operations of the mine
Manage and review mine production and development in accordance with short-term and long-term schedules and optimize cost effective recovery from the ore reserve.
Ensure mine infrastructure and mobile equipment is maintained to a standard that allows planned targets to be met and does not compromise the long-term integrity of assets.
Lead the Mine’s positive growth and improvement of all work activities and performance standards
Ensure adherence to Mine Tactical Plan and Strategic Objectives.
Compile monthly, quarterly and annual mining reports for the operation.
People Management
Manage human resources strategically within departments and create a high achieving organizational environment
Support effective employee relations practices
Ensure employees are trained and held accountable for roles
Promote and manage effective leadership, performance management, career development and succession planning of team personnel
Consistently apply workplace management procedures to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, agreed values and behaviors and Code of Conduct
Cost Planning and Management
Compilation of Mining budget and submit for approval
Identify and develop cost-effective processes to increase efficiency and reduce cost drivers.
Continuously review cost vs. benefit and report recommendations.
Identify cost savings initiatives and implement where possible while still meeting department objectives
Desired Experience & Qualification
Grade 12
Mining Engineering Degree/Diploma
Blasting Certificate
Mine Managers’ Certificate of Competency (Advantageous)
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Surface Mining and the management of diverse teams
Minimum of 5 years’ managerial experience
